Technical writers and translators have their own job duties and they work on different nodes on the entire content delivery process. However, both positions focus on local user experience and language data intelligence. Content products, either written or translated even in multi languages, should meet target users’ needs both linguistically and culturally though they may differ in content strategy, style guide, locale, compliance, and typesetting. From the perspective of knowledge management, writers and translators use approved terms, common building blocks (CBB) and templates. Classical methodologies such as 3E principles, information mapping, controlled language and pyramid principle are useful to both writing and translating. Writers and translators with richer experiences and more practices in these methodologies usually get better performance and results. Writer team and translator team, either at the same department or from two separate departments, make joint efforts for the same vison and mission: content delivery. Writers and translators are both consumers and contributors to key information elements (KIE) and language data recipe (LDR). Language data applications are emerging such as smart writing based on controlled language, writing for MT, language data evaluation and estimation.
